At the time of writing this article, I have 24 days (yay!) until my next trip “home.” The other week, the song “Be Our Guest” came on my Disney Pandora Station. My three-year-old son says, “Mama, what movie is this song from?” You should have seen the look of pure horror on my face. It was at that moment that I realized I have failed as a parent. My son, who has been to Disney a handful of times now, and even ate at the Beast’s castle (the restaurant is called Be Our Guest for crying out loud), did NOT know that that song was from Beauty and the Beast. So, I figured I needed to correct this and make him watch as many movies as possible before our trip. I compiled a list of movies from A to Z (technically 101-Z) that make some sort of an appearance in Disney World. Now, this doesn’t include merchandise or things like that. And this list also doesn’t include special events. Hopefully, with this list, you will be able to be a better parent than I 🙂 . Also, you can use this list as a reference guide to find out where your favorite movies are located around the parks!
“What’s the sitch?” I’ll tell ya what the stitch is… Christy Carlson Romano (the original voice of K.P) and Patton Oswalt (who voiced Professor Dementorare) are joining the cast of the live-action Kim Possible. For those of you that don’t remember, Kim Possible was an animated series about an everyday high school girl who, in her spare time, saves the world from villains.
During D23’s Saturday Morning on the Lot Event, Christy Carlson Romano announced she will appear in the movie, which is set to debut in 2019 on The Disney Channel. We don’t know much about her character yet, all we know is that she will make some sort of an appearance. Let me know in the comments if you are just as excited as I am about this movie!
Disclaimer: I am a lover of food, and in this ZADD Crew community, we call that #foodmotivated. (You want to see how food motived we are? Check out this awesome list from Beth here.) I am 100% totally motivated by food. I only ran half marathons because I knew that afterward, I could eat like 3 whole pizza pies by myself and the calories wouldn’t matter. (Okay, not really, but you get my point.) A big part of vacations for me is all about food. I’m constantly asking “Where are we going to eat?” and “What are we going to eat?” and “How much longer until we eat?” So, the Disney Dining Plan has a HUGE appeal to me. Throughout this article, I will tell you the facts about the Disney Dining Plan, my opinion of it, and then, lastly, tips and tricks for using it.
I’m going to be honest here… Toddlers are hard! They aren’t babies anymore, but there are not big kids yet. They are kind of in the weird in-between stage where you can’t wait for them to grow up, but, at the same time, you keep asking yourself where the time has gone. It’s an emotional rollercoaster all around! So, taking toddlers to the happiest place on earth is no small task. In this article, I hope to show you how worth it this endeavor can be, and some ways you can help minimize the meltdowns. (Notice I said “minimize.” Sorry, but there is no way to take it completely away.)

About a year ago, Disney World came out with a pilot program allowing you to you bring your furry friends into select Disney resorts with you for an additional fee. It was also announced about a month ago that pilot program was going to be coming to a close in October. Disney has now announced that the pilot program is ending to make way for a permanent offering at select Disney World Resorts beginning in October 2018. You can bring your pet along to the following select resorts (with per-animal, per-night fees also listed):
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort $50/night
- Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort $50/night
- Disney’s Yacht Club Resort $75/night
- Cabins at Disney’s Ft. Wilderness Resort $50/night
We will keep you updated on any changes to this!
Let’s face it, if you are going to be at Disney for more then a couple of days, chances are that you will encounter rain at some point in your trip. And I HATE getting caught in the rain! For me, it really has to do with my hair. I have such crazy, frizzy, curly hair that takes hours to tame this beast. So, mix that in with the Florida rain and humidity and it’s NOT a pretty sight! Anyway, I try not to let the rain ruin my day. Here are some ideas that you can do to help you through a rainy day.
A common misconception about Animal Kingdom is that “Oh, its just a zoo; we don’t need to go to that park. We have zoos at home.” and to that, I say “No!” Animal Kingdom is waaayy more than just a zoo. Yes, it does have a lot of animals, but the way that Disney approaches it makes it so magical and so different than anything you have ever experienced at home. So, here in this article, let me list my favorite things to do with kids in this beautiful park.
Their first words. Their first steps. The first time they slept through the night (my son was 13 months when he finally slept through the night…and yes, I’m just a little bitter about that…). As a parent, there are a lot of “firsts” that we remember. One of the memorable firsts is their first haircut. And what can make it more magical than having it at Disney World! I find that a lot of people don’t realize this… but did you know that there is a barber shop right on Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom? It’s called the Harmony Barber Shop and it’s the cutest little place!
Let’s be honest… Disney World can be a zoo! From the crazy crowds to the loud sounds… there is a lot going on. So much can happen in the blink of an eye. And no matter how well-behaved our kids are, or how well we keep an eye on them, there is always a chance for people to get separated from their parties. Now, I don’t tell you this to put you in a panic; it’s just reality. It does happen every once in a while. My hope for this article is that IF it ever does happen to you, you and your family will be prepared, and it will just be a little hiccup in your trip.
As mentioned on the ZADD Crew podcast episode 91 (click here to listen to it), Disney was coming out with a brand new app called Play Disney Parks that you can interact with while walking around Disney. Well, its out a few days early!! Here is a look at this new and exciting app! (you can download it here)
I often hear people ask, “If I go to Disney World this month or that month, how will the temperature be?” And I have the answer for you! It will be HOT. No matter what, you will experience hot portions in the day. Especially if you are from a northern state like me. Anything above 70 seems to be hot. And then there is my son. He is a sweaty mess if the temperature gets above 50. Actually, he sweats no matter what the temperature is. So here I have compiled a list of things that will help you keep you and your children as cool as possible in Disney World.
Disney’s pet-friendly policy that started fall of last year is sadly coming to an end this October. This policy allowed you to bring your pet into select Disney Resorts. After just a year, Disney called this program a ‘pilot program’ and said that there is no word if it will be extended at any time. The program is set to end October 15th, but if you plan on checking in by that day, you will be allowed to keep your pet in your room for your length of stay.
Mickey Waffles… I am obsessed. I honestly have a problem. Is there such thing as Mickey Waffles Anonymous? Because if there is, I need to join. Hi, my name is Nicole, and I am addicted to Mickey Waffles. Whoah, I’m glad to finally get that off my chest. Unfortunately, I only get to go ‘home’ about two times a year, so my Mickey Waffle consumption is much less then I would like. But good news! You can now make them at home! So, if you are anything like me and want to eat those delicious things 24/7, here is your chance
One of the perks of staying on property at a Disney World Resort is the transportation system to and from the parks. But now, Disney has just made it easier for us! Today, the newly updated My Disney Experience app will allow users to see the up-to-the-minute bus departure times. This will for sure help you save time and ease your experience while traveling through Disney. Just go into the app and tap on your resort reservation. Then click “See Bus Times.” A list will pop up telling you when the next bus is expected to arrive at your resort and what time it plans on arriving at its destination. So easy! Thanks, Disney!
Standing in lines for rides. Standing in lines for food. Standing in lines to meet characters. Standing in the same spot for a long time waiting for the parade or fireworks to start. I think you get the point. While at Disney, you will be doing A LOT of standing. And as adults, that can be tough for us. But imagine the kids? They need to get that energy out somehow! And Disney knows that. That’s why they have created little spaces all over the parks to let your kids run around and get the wiggles out while you sit and relax (and if you’re anything like me, time to sit a drink your Starbucks Blonde Iced Latte).
Richard Gerth, the beloved cast member who worked at the Grand Floridian Resort as a greeter, has sadly passed away at the age of 92. He passed this morning, June 7, 2018. Mr. Gerth spread magic and memories for 27 years, starting his career in 1991. He also assisted brides at the resort on their wedding days. In 2013, Mr. Gerth earned the Walt Disney Legacy Award. Although I personally never met him, I know a lot of people who have and can say that he was a wonderful man. Mr. Richard Gerth will surely be missed.
A famous man once said, “Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.” Any guesses on who said that? Anyone? Well, I’m hoping that you all said Walt Disney. And boy was he right. Walt gave us one of the greatest gifts of all, a place where we can be children at heart forever. And what better place to take our actual children to celebrate their birthdays?! Birthdays are already magical, but imagine how amazing they could be if they were celebrated at Disney! Hopefully, this article will help you make that special day a little more magical.
Starting June 1, 2018, Animal Kingdom will be testing out a new way to park your strollers while at the park. With this new system, Disney will be handing out different colored tags at certain attractions. The colored tag you get will correspond to where your stroller will be parked. There will be three stroller parking areas for each attraction.
