We finally have word that Disney’s streaming service will be launching in the United States towards the end of 2019! The service has been named Disney+ and will feature Disney classics as well as new content made specifically for the platform.
Some original TV series will be spinoffs of characters from the world of Star Wars and Marvel as well as shows based on movies like High School Musical and Monsters Inc.!
Movies coming to Disney+ include remakes like Honey I Shrunk the Kids and a live action Lady and the Tramp. Much of Disney’s extensive movie collection will be available, but there are caveats. Deals with streaming services like Netflix will prevent Disney from releasing their entire catalog with the Disney+ launch. As those contracts expire, Disney will be able to add more and more of their content to the platform.
There has not yet been a price for the service announced, but we do know it will be priced less than Netflix due to a smaller pool of content initially available. You can sign up for email notifications here to get info on the streaming service from Disney!
