It is seemingly endless summer here in Florida. This means That as you embrace fall and bundle up, we are still basking in the sun and perfecting our belly flops. Remember, Disney is a great escape from the cold weather!
We were able to visit this pool at the beginning of September 2018, just before it closed for refurbishment. This moderate resort may be the perfect mix of amenities and affordable price. This resort and pool area is a new Drennon family favorite. The feature pool has an amazing Mayan Pyramid water feature and fun water slide.
This pool has all the elements that would make you want to stay all day and never leave the pool area.
The feature pool is huge and beautiful with an amazing Mayan pyramid stationed front and center. There is a water slide (a feature not found at value resorts) that is pretty fantastic.
Thankfully for me, this slide is less intense then the one I mentioned at the Beach Club Resort. So, this is a slide that just about everyone will enjoy. I have no shame. I wait my turn and ride the slide just like all the other kids! It’s the perfect opportunity to let loose and play like a kid, or, in our case, really play with our kids.
There is a super shallow pool for the littles, as well. This little gated area is perfect for the toddlers who want to splash in the pool but be safe. There is a fair bit of shade in this section and plenty of seats for the parents. This is also a nice quiet spot if you want to have one of the littles take a nap.
What really rounds this pool out for us is the very cool playground area with multiple play spaces and a sand box for excavation. There is a slide and climbing structure with reliefs like you would find on a real Mayan temple. The mouth of the slide is even a serpent! There is an additional play structure and a giant Mayan head for the kids to climb in. (You can see we had some fun with this, too.) The sand box has little fun hidden artifacts for the little kids to dig up and discover.
Close by is also the arcade. This is another favorite of the Drennon boys — all of them. The architecture of the arcade itself is pretty authentic to the resort theme. We can’t resist a few minutes of flashy games. This is also a great place to duck in when those pesky Florida thunder storms make their appearance.
Coronado Springs also offers full size sand volleyball court in this area. The theming here is on point. The wall of the volleyball court is made to look like the wall of the ancient Mayan ball courts. The wall has a stone ring up high, just like you will find at most Mayan ruins. But enough of the history lesson….
Of course, because we are #cocktailmotivated, we love a good pool bar. We had the best caipirinha ever at this pool bar. The version here is Passion Fruit and has Cachaca, Passion Fruit, Lime, & Sugar Cane. If you can’t pronounce this drink, no worries, the cast member behind the bar assured me if I ordered enough of these drinks I’d be speaking Portuguese in no time. Consider yourself warned and govern yourself accordingly. In case you took that last bit as a challenge, you should know there is also a quick little to-go window to order yourself some poolside bites.
The bar area has ample seating and a few televisions hung behind the bar. These T.V.s were all tuned to college football at the time of our visit. This could be awesome, except we recorded our games and didn’t want to see the score until we returned home. Again, consider yourself warned.
This resort also boasts the largest hot tub on Disney property. It will hold up to 20 guests, I will let you decide if this is a plus or a minus.
While visiting Coronado Springs, I also witnessed the most engaged and largest group of kids participating in the poolside games with the cast members. Dancing, trivia, and other games kept the kids endlessly entertained. The pool area here is a destination unto itself. I think this pool has something to offer for the smallest tot, to early teen, and parents as well.
I cannot wait to see the updates and changes to this pool area. I hope that take the great thing they had going here and make it even better! Also, just a gentle reminder, the pools are heated here. To my Northern friends — by this time next month, I am sure this pool will be calling your name.
