I have said it before, and I’ll say it again — Do not leave the resort.
Disney has so much to offer and the resorts are no exception. The Drennons are firm believers that you can’t do it all in one trip. We try to slow down and really enjoy the experiences in front of us. If you are spending the money on one of Disney’s resorts, you owe it to yourself to take some time to appreciate more than the lobby. If you missed parts one, two, or three, go back and give them a read.
Part 4: The Boardwalk Resort.
We just love this resort area in general. It has so much to offer! I am not sure about you, but I feel a little extra fancy when we step into the lobby of Disney’s Boardwalk Resort. The lobby is beautiful (except for the two creepy chairs flanking the hearth). The entire resort area is begging you to relax. We spent several days here…but (gasp) we did leave the resort this time! It is just so easy to walk to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. We escaped for a date night and enjoyed the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot.
The Boardwalk itself has so much to offer — all day. I started my morning with a run around the Boardwalk and down the path to Hollywood Studios. It was a great path with lots of other runners along the way to make me feel safe and to keep me company. I can’t think of a better way to watch the sun come up. After my run, I buzzed into the Boardwalk Bakery for a cup of joe and then headed back to the room to wake up the boys. If running isn’t your cup of tea, Disney offers early morning yoga classes several days a week on the beautiful lawn facing the boardwalk.
In the afternoon, we rented one of the four-seater surrey bikes you can see at so many of the resorts.
We have always wanted to give them a try. As a note, you are limited to riding around the boardwalk loop. That may seem like not enough area to cover but trust me, pedaling this bike is harder than it seems. The four-person bike is pretty heavy and for a Florida family like us (not used to hills), we had a small challenge pedaling up the tiny hill/bridge. We also saw some beautiful weddings as we cruised around the path. This was also a #momchallenge as I had to parent from the back seat of the surrey and make sure the boys didn’t ring that tempting bell up front during a few Disney dream weddings. Thirty minutes on this bike is just enough time to work up a sweat. It was approximately $30.
After you recover from your ride, take a stroll to get some ice cream. You’ve earned it! We took time to get a scoop from Ample Hills. It was super delicious. Check out the #foodmotivated list and cross the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake off your must-eat list. After your treat, take some time and check out the street performers that you can find up and down the way. The performers are free to watch and super entertaining. We love good, old-fashioned live entertainment.
These performers are super talented and deserve some of your time! Our boys were engaged and amazed. We really spent more than an hour going from performer to performer. This is the perfect activity for a fall/winter Disney evening. There is also an area with some midway type games. We let the boys play a few and a had a great time. Be warned — the house always wins. End your evening watching a movie on the big screen on the beautiful lawn munching on some free popcorn. It may soften the blow from all the money you lost playing basketball.
Maybe you have seen it? Maybe you have heard of it? The feature pool at the Boardwalk is a giant clown. The slide looks like a wooden coaster and the exit of the slide is a giant clown mouth. So if you are terrified of clowns, maybe head to the less frighting pool. My kids loved this slide. However, they are not the best swimmers so I spent about two hours staring into the face of this clown supervising their descent. It’s maybe not my favorite view in all of Disney, but the screams of joy from my happy kids made up for it. Plus, they have a pool bar…
Take advantage of the free poolside activities: play trivia, play games, relax. Enjoy some old-fashioned family fun. Check out all the great places to grab a bite and drink. Let me know your favorite thing about the Boardwalk resort in the comments.
Big thanks to the @thezipadeedoocrew for the use of his pictures in this post. (except for the clown one.. he wouldn’t get close enough to that pool to snap a picture for me)
